The Faces Behind OOH: Elli Mowat

This month, we're talking with Elli Mowat, Trading Manager at UM Australia, to discuss her experience working in the media industry and what she loves about OOH.


How long have you been in your current role?

About 4 years.


What made you want to enter the advertising industry?

Happy accident! I was working in a call center for a multi-level marketing company over COVID (grim) and my brother sent me the job description. I immediately applied and the rest is history.


What does a typical day look like for you?

Find a desk, get coffee with the girls, sigh heavily at all the unanswered emails and crack on! Agency life is organised chaos, and I love it.


What do you love about working in media?

It’s never boring and more importantly, I can be myself. I’m a yapper who loves a challenge and problem solving, so I think it’s suited perfectly for someone like me.


What makes OOH unique?

Large format sites are one of a kind and it’s such a tangible medium. Seeing your hard work plastered on a billboard is second to none, especially on an iconic site.


Proudest achievement in your career so far?

A bit weird, but it’s not work related per se, it’s mainly the relationship I’ve built whilst working here! Some of the best people in my life I met through UM.


Fun fact about you not many people know? 

I’ve helped solve a crime on a Greek island… It’s giving Nancy Drew.


What are your goals for the next 12 months?

Learn heaps and have fun! Work life balance is so important and I’m trying to prioritise it.


What is your favourite OOH campaign?

Recently, I’ve been loving the Specsavers campaigns – humor in your creative is always a winner.
